Transformation Tuesday: Turning a Room you Like Into one you Love
Especially if you purchased a pre-owned home, there may be a few rooms you’re less than happy with. Of course, you’ll live with them, but maybe the dining room could be a little larger and more open; the living room could be a little closer and more intimate; the master bedroom could use a little more light to brighten it up. So what do you do if you’re not ready to undertake a major remodeling project?
The answer, believe it or not, lies in the transformative power of paint. Whether you want to expand your rooms or make them seem more cozy, you don’t need to start tearing down the walls–all you need is a little coordination and the right shades to pull it off. The Orlando painting team at New Ceilings has a few suggestions to fix some common issues with paint:
- Make your room look larger: If your room feels a little cramped, try lightening up the color scheme. Pale shades and lighter neutrals really help to open a room up and make it seem more spacious. Ensure that your ceiling is a light color as well, so it doesn’t seem lower than it is. You may want to play around with a monochromatic palette and choose paint, flooring and furniture that is all different shades of the same color. Whatever you do, don’t make it too dark!
- Give your room a more intimate feel: Formal dining rooms or entertaining living rooms are simply begging for a little bit of intimacy and elegance. Achieve both feelings at once with a rich, luxurious accent wall. Whether you decide to color the ceiling or one of your side walls, rich burgundies, plums, navy, or even black for the most adventurous among us can really help bring a room and its inhabitants closer together. Feel free to experiment with texture, as well. Just don’t overdo it, or it may start to feel cramped.
- Bring some more light into your room: If your room feels a bit dim and dismal, even with all of your beautiful lighting features, it’s time to redo your paint scheme to incorporate a few bright colors. Don’t be afraid of vivid hues–just be sure to make the accents in your furniture subtle and tasteful. Also, adding white moulding to the edges of your walls can help reflect a little more light and really give your space some pop.
