3 Common Exterior Paint Issues and How to Fix Them

orlando painters exterior painting issuesIt’s pretty obvious that the exterior of your home provides your visitors and neighbors with their first impressions of you. From its color to its quality, your home’s exterior says a lot about your personality and your style. However, with that huge of a statement being made, it can reflect negatively on you; and bubbled or cracking paint aren’t exactly the most in-vogue style choices. How can you make sure your exterior paint doesn’t let you down?

The Orlando painters at New Ceilings have seen it all, from scratches and dents to flaking and chalking, and we’ve helped homeowners throughout Central Florida to keep their homes’ exteriors shining brightly. Here are a few of the most common exterior paint issues that arise and how to fix them:

  • Chalking: Have you ever rested your hand (or arm, or back) on your house only to leave with a thin film of color? That’s called chalking, and it occurs when the paint weathers and erodes a little too quickly. While this is normal for any paint, it becomes more pronounced when you use a paint too high in pigment. To get rid of it, brush off all the chalk you possibly can with a dry brush, then cover up with a coat of quality exterior paint.
  • Blistering and bubbling: These annoying little bubbles aren’t quite as cute as the ones your child likes to chase through the air. Bubbling is caused by trapped humidity working against the wood of the siding, leaving your paint unable to properly adhere to the walls. To get rid of this issue, you’ll need to scrape off the bubbles and start again, unfortunately. Before you paint, make sure you properly caulk and prime the surface to help keep moisture out.
  • Flaking: There’s nothing more annoying than seeing little flakes of paint peeling away from your home’s exterior. When you first start noticing tiny hairline cracks in your paint, be prepared for larger-scale flaking in the not-so-distance future. Lower-quality paint or too-thin layers of paint can lead to eventual flaking. To prevent this from occurring, ensure you select the proper quality of paint and apply a thick, even layer.

Instead of dealing with scraping away old paint and renewing the coating time and time again, why not leave the job to the experts? The Orlando painters at New Ceilings have years of experience and access to the highest quality paints available, giving you the most beautiful home you could ever imagine.
